Session Guide
A Little Note From Grace
If you're anything like me, you're probably wondering what to wear, how to prepare, or what to expect from your session. Don't worry,we'll figure it out together!
This is here to help answer some of the most common questions I receive and make your session experience as stress-free as possible. Here you'll find outfit tips, session expectations, timing recommendations, advice for photographing little ones, and answers to FAQs!
Above all else, I want you to feel like yourself. Your personal style should always come first. The best photographs happen when you feel comfortable, confident, and present with the people you love.
What to Wear
When planning outfits, I recommend thinking about the overall feel of your session. Consider the location, season, and the people being photographed. Rather than matching exactly, aim for outfits that complement one another.
Neutral tones, earth tones, and subtle pops of color tend to photograph beautifully. The image above is a great example; soft neutrals paired with intentional color create balance while still allowing everyone's personality to shine through. Of course, Pinterest is always a wonderful source of inspiration! If you're stuck, I'm happy to help with outfit planning and ideas.
What Not to Wear
While there are no strict rules, I generally recommend avoiding large logos, neon colors, overly busy patterns, and clothing with distracting text. The goal is for the focus to stay on you and your connection rather than what you're wearing.
Session Timing
The ideal session time depends entirely on the type of session we're creating together. While I seriously love a beautiful golden hour session, it isn't always the best option. For example, an in-home newborn session often benefits from earlier daylight hours when there is more natural light available throughout your home.
Every session is unique and I'll help guide you toward the timing that best fits your vision and location.
For Families
If you're bringing little ones, take a deep breath, we're not aiming for perfection here. Some children are excited from the moment they arrive, some need a little time to warm up, and some simply have their own plans for the day. That's completely okay.
My goal is to capture your family's connection, not force perfectly posed smiles for an hour. Some of the sweetest photographs come from genuine interactions, cuddles, laughter, and those little in-between moments that make your family uniquely yours.
If anyone needs a break, we'll take one. If we need to slow down, we'll slow down. We'll work together to create a relaxed experience that feels enjoyable for everyone involved.

At the end of the day; don't stress about having the perfect outfits, perfect weather, or perfect smiles. Years from now, what you'll treasure most are the memories of this season of life and the people who shared it with you. My goal is simply to preserve those moments as honestly and beautifully as possible.
FAQ
We feel awkward in front of the camera. Is that okay?
Absolutely! Most of my clients tell me this before their session. My goal is to create a relaxed experience where you can focus on one another rather than the camera. I'll guide you through prompts and movement so nothing feels stiff or forced.
What if the weather doesn't cooperate?
If weather becomes an issue, we'll discuss rescheduling or adjusting plans as needed. My priority is making sure you receive the best possible experience and photographs.
What should we bring to our session?
Water, comfortable walking shoes if needed, and anything meaningful you'd like included. For families with young children, snacks and a favorite comfort item can also be helpful.
How long will it take to receive my gallery?
Typical turnaround time is approximately 2-4 weeks depending on the season and session type. Weddings may require additional time.
How long does a session last?
Most sessions last around 45-60 minutes, though every session is a little different depending on location, children, outfit changes, and the overall flow of the session.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! I love incorporating pets into sessions whenever possible. Just let me know beforehand so we can choose a suitable location and plan accordingly.
